Course Overview
The Basic Digital Photography course will enable you to work with your own
camera and camera functions confidently. You will learn how to make
effective use of your Apertures, Shutter-Speeds and ISO’s to create
photographic images. You will learn how to calculate correct exposure
through the use of your histogram. You will work with your lens to make a
range of different images exploring how lens focal lengths affect images.
You will be introduced to Adobe Bridge working with JPG images created
on the course. By the end of the course you will understand your camera
controls, have explored a diverse range of images and be able to construct
well exposed photographs using your digital camera. On this course, you
will learn by seeing a diverse range of images from a variety of sources.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements
It would be beneficial to have attended the “Get to Know your DSLR
Camera” course. However, if you have a basic understanding of your
camera control functions and can identify these then you can join this
course. The Basic Digital Photography course is the middle course in a
series that comprises of: Get to Know your DSLR Camera, Basic Digital
Photography and Digital Photography Intermediate. These three courses
will give you the tools to make photographs with confidence across a
wide range of picture making situations. You will need to have a camera
that can be used in manual mode, i.e. a Compact, Bridge CSC (Compact
System Camera) or DSLR camera.

Equipment Required
Any digital camera (Compact, Bridge, CSC [Compact System Camera] or
DSLR camera) with the ability to set your exposures manually. Pen &
notepaper, you will create a learning journal, recording your progress,
making notes during theory sessions and in practical demonstrations.

At the end of the course we recommend that you progress onto the
Intermediate Photography course. You will have skills that will also enable
you to attend, Portrait course.

What examination is there?

What examination is there?
Please note on all examination courses, it is a requirement that you provide photographic proof of
ID. This is for external awarding body and internal invigilation authentication purposes.
There will be an initial assessment followed by on-going assessment of progress and
achievement. This course will also include:
· Showing of photographs to fellow students and discussing the images using appropriate
photographic terminology.
· You will be creating images outside of class time that will be evaluated in class through
critiques and discussion allowing you to learn from your own images how to develop your
photographic skills.

How will I know I am making progress?

How will I know I am making progress?
Your tutor will give you on-going feedback tracking and monitoring your progress, giving feedback
though out the course. You and the tutor will use an individual learning plan to monitor your
progress allowing you and the tutor to track your knowledge and skills developed on the course.
You will also gain more from the course if you commit time to it outside the classroom.
