Course Overview
The Street Photography in the East End course will get you out onto the
streets of London’s East End making images. You will learn about Zone
focusing, Hyperfocal distance, Composition and develop an
understanding of the history of street photography. Though the course you
will gain confidence with your camera and learn how to photograph in
public spaces.

Explore the diverse images made by some of the masters of street photography, thereby developing your ability to 'see' a good photograph.

Develop masking techniques for photographers enabling you to make images
with confidence in public spaces

Improve your camera confidence enabling you to work more quickly to get
the photograph you want.

Calculate how to Zone focus your images, using your camera in manual focus mode.

related to the ethical and/or legal concerns of photographing on the street.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements
None, however it would be beneficial if you will have already completed
the Get to Know your Digital Camera Course and/or the Basic Digital
Photography course. You will need your own camera, ideally with the
ability to set manual exposure mode.

Equipment Required

Equipment Required
Camera: preferably a Digital, or rangefinder type, Pen and note Paper,
Access to a computer to be able to download and process your image
files so you can submit them to your tutor for peer review would be an
advantage. You will need to bring your camera to every lesson.

What examination is there?

What examination is there?
There will be an initial assessment followed by on-going assessment of progress and
achievement. This course will also include:
• Showing of photographs to fellow students and discussing the images using appropriate
photographic terminology.
• You will be creating images in your own time outside the class time that will be evaluated in
class through critiques and discussion allowing you to learn from your own images how to
develop your photographic skills.
• Observation of working methods on the street while making images in public spaces, with
peer learning of photographic processes.

How will I know I am making progress?

How will I know I am making progress?
Your tutor will give you on-going feedback tracking and monitoring your progress, giving feedback
though out the course. You and the tutor will use an individual learning plan to monitor your
progress allowing you and the tutor to track your knowledge and skills developed on the course.
You will also gain more from the course if you commit time to it outside the classroom.
