Mental Health First Aid (MHFA is an internationally recognised training course, which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing an mental health issue. MHFA won't teach you to be a therapist, but just like first aid, it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. What's more, you'll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

In order to gain certification as a Mental Health First Aider you must complete individual learning tasks before each of the four live online learning sessions and attend all four live online session.

4 live online learning sessions (2.5 - 3 hours each)

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements
You will be able to speak English fluently and follow verbal and written instructions. You also need to have basic ICT skills to be able to log in to the online learning portal and complete your individual learning tasks

Equipment Required

Equipment Required
You will receive your course manual and workbook in the post ahead of your first live online session.

You will also receive instructions to sign into the online learning portal which houses all the individual learning tasks you need to complete before each of the live online sessions, including the first one. This portal is also the platform where you can attend the live online sessions.

Please ensure you have a good internet connection and the ability to switch on video and sounds and can attend the live online session from a space where there are minimal distractions.

3. Armed Forces MHFA - two day, one day and half day
4. 7 day MHFA Instructor training - Adult, Youth, Higher Education or Armed Forces

What examination is there?

What examination is there?
You will need to complete the individual learning tasks allocated to you before each of the live sessions. It is anticipated that there will be 7 hours of individual learning time in total. The instructor is able to track whether you have completed the tasks allocated to you and how much time you may have spent on each of those.
There is a course manual and workbook that you will be required to work with both during individual learning and online sessions. In additon, the live session requires participation and engagement to maximise learning for you and other participants.

At the end of the series of live sessions you might be asked to complete all or some of these:
1. Equal opportunities form
2. Contact details form - for sending the certificates
3. Evaluation form

NB Certificates can only be awarded on completion of individual learning and attending all four live sessions - this is estimated to be a minimum of 17.5 hours in total.

How will I know I am making progress?

How will I know I am making progress?
The tutor will be able to monitor our progress with the individual learning tasks. You can contact them between sessions if you have any queries or require support with the learning tasks. There will be activities and discussions during the session to enable the instructor to check learning and provide feedback.

Using an Individual Learning Plan is an other way to see if you have made progress.

Enrolment for this course will close two weeks before the start in order to have sufficient time to order the workbooks.

Learners are expected to be on time and attend all sessions.

Students are encouraged to comment on the course. The tutor will distribute at least one student satisfaction survey where your views will feed back into the planning, teaching and learning of future courses.
