Course Overview
This is a Functional Skills English course at Levels 1 which will help you to develop your communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

You will practise a range of functional English literacy skills and this will enable you to apply these skills in the workplace and everyday situations. You will learn how to recognise and produce everyday texts and take part in group discussions.

Online skills: Complete 5 BSKB Modules and 3 Active Learn Modules on different aspects of English Functional Skills.

This is an online learning course. For online learning we can use Zoom for teaching. You need internet and a device e.g. a phone, tablet or computer and then download the Zoom app. We also use Google Classroom. Download this app onto your device. This is for classwork and homework tasks.

Learners will take two exams and participate in two tasks to pass course.


A 45-minute writing exam


A 45-minute reading exam


Task 1 is a talk to a small peer group and a question and answer session


Task 2 is a formal discussion

Your tutor will inform you of your progress and you will complete regular progress reviews with your tutor. You will also be assessed in class by one to one, summative and formative assessments and tutorials.

To maximise your chances of benefiting from the course fully we expect you to attend all scheduled sessions and that you do so punctually and are ready to start learning at the start of the class. Please remember if you miss 4 online classes in a row or your attendance is below 80%, you will lose your place on the course.
