Course Overview
The aim of this course is to help you revise basic maths and practise applying maths skills to solve real-life-like problems.
We will focus on using simple maths methods to solve a range of problems. In term B, we will continue to use maths for money, measure everyday objects and time plan. You will also learn how to read and make graphs, charts and tables.
You will use a calculator most of the time.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements
You should have your maths skills at Entry Level 2 for entry on to course, and your reading comprehension skills in ESOL must be at least at Entry Level 2.

Equipment Required
For this course, you will need pens, pencils, A4 or A5 notepad, a ruler and a calculator or you can use one on your mobile phone. You will need to log in online using Google classroom for your homework. Your teacher will support you with this.

What courses can I go on to?

What courses can I go on to?
After completing Essential Maths course, learners can progress through the levels on to a Functional Skills Qualifications in Mathematics at Levels 1 and 2.

We have other ESOL, English and Digital skills classes available throughout the year.

What examination is there?

What examination is there?
Your tutor will inform you of your progress and you will complete regular progress reviews with your tutor.
You will also be assessed in class by one to one, summative and formative assessments and tutorials.
There is an no exam at the end of the course.

How will I know I am making progress?

How will I know I am making progress?
As well as having multiple opportunities for self-assessment, you will be assessed throughout the course on your progress. You will discuss your progress with the tutor at regular intervals, which will help you get ready in terms of your maths skills and confidence. We will then decide on your next steps.

If you are studying in an online group, then you can arrange a one-to-one online discussion with your tutor, after the session, or by email.
