Course Overview
This is a Functional Skills English course at level 1, it is designed to equip you with the practical skills needed to live, learn and work successfully. You will be able to apply these skills in a range of different purposes in the workplace and in other real-life situations.
The course will help you to develop your communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

o Complete timed practice papers in preparation for the reading and writing exams.

o Read a text closely to locate specific information and answer questions about it.

o Plan and draft an article using information given, to support & structure your ideas. Write an article using the correct features.

Speaking and Listening Skills:
o Give a short talk on a topic of your choice for 3 minutes and answer questions about it for 2 minutes.

IT Skills
o To complete 3 homework tasks on ActiveLearn and get a score of 70% and above.

Entry Requirements

You will need to be fluent in spoken English and demonstrate reading and writing skills at entry level 3 or above.

Equipment Required

Equipment Required
You need to have access to a digital study device such as a laptop, PC or tablet with a webcam and microphone, and have regular, reliable internet connection.
You will need also need a notebook and pens.

Please note on all examination courses, it is a requirement that you provide photographic proof of ID. This is for external awarding body and internal invigilation authentication purposes.

If you cannot finish the course, you must tell your tutor as soon as possible. If you cannot attend an exam that you have been entered for, then you will be liable to pay £50.

How will I know I am making progress?

How will I know I am making progress?
Your tutor will set you individual goals to be reviewed during 1-to-1 tutorials to inform you of your progress and you can also discuss any issues relating to your learning.

You will also be assessed in class by one to one, summative and formative assessments.

Please remember if you miss 3 classes in a row or your attendance is below 80%, you will lose your place on the course.

You must do your homework and any other tasks that your tutor asks you to do enable you to achieve your learning goals. If you do not, then your tutor can remove you from the course.

If you have declared a learning difficulty, disability or support need whilst enrolling and you require support/assistance in class or to complete your course, please discuss your needs with your tutor at the first lesson.

If you intend to take an examination and feel you have an additional learning need or special requirements, you must declare them to your tutor within the first 2 weeks of your course.

If you are studying in an online group, then you can arrange a one-to-one online discussion with your tutor, after the session, or by email.
