Course Overview
The aim of this course is to aid progression on to a L2 course: revise L1 concepts and introduce L2 material, give an overview of the exam and develop exam and independent study skills.
You will revise and extend the topics of 1). fractions and percentages, 2). ratio and proportion, 3). measurement, shape and space, and firmly focus on developing exam skills.

By the end of the course you will have consolidated L1 and learned new L2 FS maths skills in 2 or more areas: *fractions and percentages, **ratio and proportion, ***measure, shape and space; you will have opportunities to assess your progress against individual goals.

You will be able to locate and access independent study materials: Goggle Classroom, video lessons on the internet, or printed support materials.

(week 5) You will have attempted a practice Functional Skills exam at Level 2 (edited) and received detailed feedback on your performance with guidance and support to help you achieve once you have moved on to an exam preparation course.

Entry Requirements

You achieved a L1 FS maths qualification, or have your maths skills at Level 1 on entry to course, and your reading comprehension skills in English must be at least at Level 1.

Equipment Required

Equipment Required
Pen, pencil, calculator, notepad, ruler for classroom teaching; access to internet (for Google Classroom), a scanning app (smartphone) to submit your work electronically.

What courses can I go on to?

What courses can I go on to?
A natural progression route would be to continue on the accredited intensive 10-week L2 Exam Preparation course from March 2023. You could also consider doing Functional English, or move on to a higher level course of study.
Please speak to your tutor for further ideas.

What examination is there?

What examination is there?
You will be studying towards a nationally recognised qualification in Functional Skills Mathematics (Pearson Edexcel). The 5 week course leads to an accredited 10 week programme and the L2 exam is an integral part of that course.
Level 2 Functional Maths qualification is equivalent to GCSE Maths grade 4 (pass).
Please note on all examination courses, it is a requirement that you provide photographic proof of ID. This is for external awarding body and internal invigilation authentication purposes.

How will I know I am making progress?

How will I know I am making progress?
You will ask questions in class, and your tutor will help you understand and become confident with the material you are learning. You will complete work independently to revise and memorise what you are learning, your tutor will mark your work and give you feedback. You will have many opportunities for self-assessment and your tutor will discuss your progress regularly, which will help you gain confidence and achieve your exam goals.

As this course leads to a blended intensive 10 week exam preparation course which will run in classroom and online, please note you will need to access materials and submit some of your your work electronically. Your tutor will show you how to use free apps and how to access websites. However, you must have access to a computer connected to the internet. Please see below for available support with IT equipment.
