Course Overview
This course is for you if you would like to learn about Bachata a partnered dance from the Dominican republic, and gain understanding of the steps and movements involved, as well as partner dance skills.
If you’ve even been to a salsa party, then you’ve probably seen the dancers dancing to slower songs and wondered what steps they are doing. It's most probably bachata! Contrasting to salsa, the music and energy of the dance is slower however the leading and following signals are mostly similar. Today bachata is extremely popular and there are many social dance offerings just for bachateros , although you will also find many venues playing a 50/50 of music from both salsa and bachata. This course is for absolute beginners providing an overview of the steps and different styles of bachata today.
Whilst on the course you will use steps and turn techniques as well as rib and hip Movement. You will also learn about timing and rhythm, as well as some history of the Dance.

What courses can I go on to?
You may wish to progress to learning Salsa. Although you can find people who just dance salsa or bachata, the majority of social dancers have both skill sets.
You may wish to enrol on other courses held at Idea Store Learning. Your tutor will support you in researching these and other courses outside of Idea Store Learning.

What examination is there?

What examination is there?
At the beginning of the course an initial assessment takes place to identify your level of experience knowledge or current skills, and you will be asked to complete and sign a health screening questionnaire.

The tutor will carry out informal assessments to check your understanding, there is no exam.

You will complete a self-assessment at the beginning, middle and end of the course and you will participate in regular self assessment.

Your tutor will let you know how you are getting on throughout the course, to help you work to your full potential.

At the end of the course you will receive written feedback.

You will have an ‘Individual Learning Plan’ where the course learning outcomes are shown and where you can set individual learning goals and monitor your own progress against these.

You will need to evaluate your own progress and manage your time.

Your tutor will give ongoing feedback and will keep you informed of your progress.

Video recording might be used as a reflective tool.
