Course Overview

Did you know you can achieve your Functional Skills Maths Level 2 qualification in just 11 weeks?
Take the next step towards building your confidence in maths and gaining a nationally recognised qualification that can open doors to better job opportunities, further study, and everyday success. This course is designed to prepare you for the Pearson Edexcel Level 2 Functional Skills Maths exam while helping you develop practical skills you can use in daily life and work. You will learn how to work with numbers, including fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios, as well as carry out calculations and use simple formulae.
You will build the confidence to solve problems, understand data, and make decisions using maths. Our experienced tutors will support you every step of the way in a friendly and welcoming environment, helping you learn at a pace that suits you.
At the end of the course, you will be ready to take the Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Maths Level 2 exam and move on to further education, training, or employment with the skills and confidence you need.

This twice-a-week course is your chance to level up your reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities in a fun, practical way.

You’ll explore real-world texts like articles, reports, and instructions, and learn how to write with clarity and purpose whether it’s a formal letter, a persuasive email, or a professional report. You’ll also get hands on with punctuation, technical vocabulary, and literary devices that make your writing pop.

Plus, you’ll practise presenting your ideas, joining discussions, and responding confidently to others. By the end, you’ll feel ready to take on the qualification and move forward whether that’s into work, college, university, or simply communicating with ease in everyday life.

What will you learn and be able to do?

* • Calculate and manage financial tasks using positive and negative numbers, large values, and decimals. Apply estimation and the order of operations to create and adjust household budgets, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in everyday money management.

* • Interpret and analyse numerical data presented in various forms, including fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. Identify trends and patterns to compare product performance, assess efficiency, and support decision-making using data.

* • Apply mathematical techniques to solve measurement and geometry problems. Calculate area, perimeter, and volume of 2-D and 3-D shapes, convert between metric and imperial units, and use scales and coordinates to plan layouts and renovations.

* • Represent and compare data using tables, charts, and diagrams. Calculate statistical measures such as mean, mode, and range, and use scatter diagrams to identify and interpret correlations between variables in practical contexts.

Entry requirements

This course is for learners working at Level 2.
It is suitable for adults aged 19 and over who have completed a Level 1 qualification or be able to demonstrate the skills and language at the required level. You should have an understanding of Maths operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), familiarity with fractions, decimals, and percentages, or be able to demonstrate skills required at this level.
This means you will learn how to use maths skills to solve different types of problems step by step.

Equipment required

Please bring to every lesson:
• A folder
• Pens & pencils
• Lined A4 paper
• A smartphone (if you have one)
• A reusable water bottle
We will give you the WIFI details in the first lesson.
If you do not have access to a smart phone or a computer, speak to your tutor.

You will also need a personal Gmail account to access the Google classroom, which will be used for submitting coursework and accessing course materials. If you do not have a Gmail account speak to your tutor.

How will you know you are making progress?

From the start of your course, your tutor will talk with you about what you can do well and how you can achieve more. You will receive regular feedback and tutorials guiding you on how to develop your skills. Your studies and work outside the classroom (through Google Classroom) will be essential towards your progression and success on the course. In addition, you will keep a learning diary to form the basis of discussions with your tutor on what you need to work on. You will also develop the skills needed to self-assess and analyse your own strengths and areas for development.
There will be mock and practice exams to guide you. At the end of the course, you will take the Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in Maths at Level 2. The following topics will be covered during your class to help you achieve your qualification:
• Working with Numbers: Use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and work with fractions, decimals and percentages in practical situations such as budgeting and rounding.
• Measure, Shape and Space: Use measurements in different contexts and calculate area, perimeter and volume, while recognising shapes and spatial relationships.
• Handling Data: Collect and interpret data from charts, tables and graphs, and use averages and range to understand and compare information.
• Problem Solving: Use maths skills to solve different types of problems, make decisions, and check your answers.
The exam is taken at The Shadwell Centre at the end of the course therefore, you MUST attend all your classes.
At the end of the course, you will discuss your progress and what to do next with your tutor.
You need to attend at least 90% of your classes.
