You will work with a range of processes including monoprint, relief (linocut or card print), collagraph, and basic drypoint, learning how each method works while exploring how they can be used in different ways.
The focus is on exploration, repetition, and variation. You will experiment with mark making, texture, layering, and simple colour, trying out ideas and seeing how your work changes through reworking and testing.
You will take part in group discussion and informal critique, helping you reflect on what works, what doesn’t, and what you would like to develop further. You will also look at artworks from different cultures and traditions to support your ideas.
Sketchbooks are used to record your experiments, helping you track your progress and build confidence in your decision making.
This course prepares you to progress to Explore: printmaking – extend and combine processes (Term B), where you will begin combining techniques and developing your work more independently.
