Have you ever admired stained glass and wanted to make your own piece?

This beginner‑friendly course introduces you to the traditional craft of stained glass, guiding you step by step as you design and create your own stained glass panel in a safe and supportive workshop environment.

You will learn core stained glass techniques, including designing a cartoon and cut‑line, cutting glass, leading, soldering, and finishing. With tutor demonstrations and hands‑on support, you’ll gradually build confidence while working on a simple project that you can take home and display.

* Work safely and confidently in a stained glass workshop, correctly handling glass, tools, lead, and soldering equipment.
* Design and prepare a stained glass pattern, producing a clear cartoon and cut-line suitable for construction.
* Select, measure, and cut glass accurately, using appropriate tools and calculating material requirements for a project.
* Construct and assemble a stained glass panel using traditional leading and soldering techniques.
* Complete and finish a stained glass piece, using appropriate terminology to describe the process and evaluating the finished work.

How will you know you are making progress?

How will you know you are making progress?
You will have an ‘Individual Learning Plan’ where the course learning outcomes are shown and where you can set individual learning goals and monitor your own progress against these.

You will need to evaluate your own progress and manage your time.

Your tutor will give ongoing feedback and will keep you informed of your progress.

At the beginning of the course an initial assessment takes place to identify your level of experience knowledge or current skills.

The tutor will carry out informal assessments to check your understanding, there is no exam.

You will complete a self-assessment at the beginning, middle and end of the course and you will participate in regular self assessment.

Your tutor will let you know how you are getting on throughout the course, to help you work to your full potential.

At the end of the course you will receive written feedback.

Other info
The course does supply all the tools, lead, solder and cement, but students will need to buy the glass for their projects, which is not included in the cost of materials. It is also advisable for you to buy your own glass cutting tool to use in class. This can be discussed with the tutor.

If you intend to take an examination and feel you have an additional learning need or special requirements, you must declare them to your tutor within the first 2 weeks of your course.

If you are studying in an online group, then you can arrange a one-to-one online discussion with your tutor, after the session, or by email.
