Do you want to talk about issues that matter to you and your community?
In this course, you will explore topics such as fairness, equality and issues affecting women and the local community.
You will share your experiences, express your opinions and develop your confidence speaking in English. You will also read and write about real-life issues.
By the end of the course, you will feel more confident sharing your ideas and taking part in discussions.

This is a course for learners working towards Entry 3.
You can already communicate your ideas clearly and are developing your confidence speaking in different situations. A pre-course assessment is required

Please bring to every lesson:
• A folder
• Pens & pencils
• Lined A4 paper
• A smartphone (if you have one)
• A reusable water bottle
We will give you the WIFI details in the first lesson.
If you do not have access to a smart phone or a computer, speak to your tutor.

You will also need a personal Gmail account to access the Google classroom, which will be used for submitting coursework and accessing course materials. If you do not have a Gmail account speak to your tutor.

How will you know you are making progress?

How will you know you are making progress?
From the start of the course, your tutor will talk with you about what you can do and what you want to learn.
You will make a simple learning plan together to help you improve your English step by step.
As part of your learning, you will complete a short personal task about an issue that is important to you. This task will help you practise your English and show your progress.
Examples of personal tasks include:
• take part in a discussion and give your opinion with reasons
• ask and answer questions with a guest speaker
• write a short persuasive text about a topic
• describe an experience and explain how it connects to an issue
• share your ideas about fairness, equality or community life
Some tasks may include real-life activities outside the classroom (for example, reading real texts or sharing ideas about community issues).
You will keep your work in a folder. Your teacher will give you feedback to help you improve your English.
At the end of the course, you will talk about your progress and your next steps with your tutor.
You need to attend at least 80% of your classes.
