Discover the joy of singing jazz in a friendly and supportive group.
This relaxed and welcoming course invites adult learners of all experience levels to explore the distinctive sound and style of jazz singing through well known songs and practical group activities.
You will learn how to warm up your voice safely and effectively, develop confidence with jazz rhythms and melodies, and explore key jazz techniques such as call and response, harmonising, vocal improvisation, and group singing. The course also introduces the blues scale and helps you understand how jazz singers shape melodies and express emotion.
Working together as a group, you’ll rehearse and perform a selection of popular jazz standards, such as Autumn Leaves and I Got Rhythm, focusing on style, swing, and interpretation rather than perfection. Beginners will be supported step by step, while more confident singers will have opportunities to extend their skills through solo singing and improvisation.
The emphasis is on enjoyment, musical confidence, and collaboration, helping you develop your voice while connecting with others who share an interest in jazz.
