Course Overview
Do you want to develop and improve on your stained glass skills?

You will build on core techniques while working on larger and more detailed stained glass projects, improving accuracy, confidence, and independence.
You’ll explore more complex designs, colour use, and glass cutting, while refining your leading and soldering techniques. With tutor demonstrations and supported project work, you’ll begin to make informed decisions about design, materials, and construction methods.
This course is ideal if you want to create more ambitious stained glass pieces for your home, gifts, or personal creative development.

Medium‑sized decorative panels
Panels with curves and multiple colour sections
Framed stained glass window panels
Themed or patterned designs (geometric, floral, abstract)

* Work safely and confidently with stained glass tools, equipment, and materials in a workshop setting.
* Design and prepare a stained glass pattern, including more complex shapes such as curved and multi-section designs.
* Measure, calculate, and cut glass accurately, producing detailed shapes to meet project specifications.
* Construct and assemble a stained glass panel, using leading and soldering techniques to achieve strong, neat joints.
* Complete and finish a stained glass piece to a higher standard, demonstrating improved consistency, structure, and overall quality.

None, for beginners. More advanced learners will have to demonstrate their prior knowledge before being given more complex work.

Equipment required

Equipment required
A Note or Sketch book, pencils and an eraser. You may be asked to buy a hand-held glass cutter and glass for your individual project, as the course progresses.

How will you know you are making progress?

How will you know you are making progress?
You will have an ‘Individual Learning Plan’ where the course learning outcomes are shown and where you can set individual learning goals and monitor your own progress against these.

You will need to evaluate your own progress and manage your time.

Your tutor will give ongoing feedback and will keep you informed of your progress.

At the beginning of the course an initial assessment takes place to identify your level of experience knowledge or current skills.

The tutor will carry out informal assessments to check your understanding, there is no exam.

You will complete a self-assessment at the beginning, middle and end of the course and you will participate in regular self assessment.

Your tutor will let you know how you are getting on throughout the course, to help you work to your full potential.

At the end of the course you will receive written feedback.

Other info
The course does supply all the tools, lead, solder and cement, but students will need to buy the glass for their projects, which is not included in the cost of materials. It is also advisable for you to buy your own glass cutting tool to use in class. This can be discussed with the tutor.
