Do you want to manage your money and everyday life more confidently in English?
This course helps you build the English skills you need to make decisions about shopping, spending, and daily life. You will develop your speaking, reading, writing, and listening through activities based on common situations such as comparing prices, understanding bills, and making choices.
You will learn how to ask for information, solve everyday problems, and communicate clearly about money and decisions. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident managing everyday situations in English.
In this course you will
• compare prices in shops or online and decide what to buy
• read and understand bills, receipts, and special offers
• ask for information about prices and payments
• write short messages or emails about shopping or money

* ask for and understand information about prices, offers, and payments (e.g. “How much is it?”, “Can I pay by card?”)
* read and identify key information in everyday texts (e.g. receipts, bills, offers) (price, date, total)
* compare items and explain choices using simple language (e.g. “This is cheaper because…”)
* write short messages or emails about shopping and money using connectives (e.g. “and”, “because”)
* talk about everyday choices and simple ways to save money or make better choices (e.g. using local shops, offers, transport)
* follow and give simple instructions using sequencing words (e.g. “first, then, next”) (e.g. how to pay or use a machine)

Entry requirements

Entry requirements
This is a course for learners working towards ESOL Entry 2.
This means you can speak in short sentences, understand simple everyday English, and read and write basic texts.

All ESOL courses require a teacher assessment first to check the course is the right level for you.

Please bring to every lesson:
• A folder
• Pens & pencils
• Lined A4 paper
• A smartphone (if you have one)
• A reusable water bottle
We will give you WiFi in your first lesson.
If you do not have a phone or computer, talk to your teacher.
You will need a Gmail account. Your teacher can help you set this up.

How will you know you are making progress?

How will you know you are making progress?
From the start of the course, your tutor will talk with you about what you can do and what you want to learn.
You will make a learning plan together to help you improve your English step by step.
As part of your learning, you will complete a short personal task about something important in your life. This task will help you use English in real situations and show your progress.
Examples of personal tasks include:
• compare prices and explain your choice (e.g. in a shop or online)
• read a bill or receipt and explain the key information (price, date, total)
• ask for information about an item or payment and understand the answer
• write a short message or email about shopping or spending (e.g. asking about an item)
• follow instructions to complete a task (e.g. using a machine or paying for something)
Some tasks may include real-life activities outside the classroom (for example, comparing prices in a shop or understanding a receipt).
You will keep your work in a folder. Your teacher will give you feedback to help you improve your English.
At the end of the course, you will talk about your progress and your next steps with your tutor.
You need to attend at least 80% of your classes.
