Do you want to express your ideas clearly and share your opinions with confidence in English?
This course helps you develop the English skills you need to explain your ideas, give your opinions, and take part in discussions at work and in your everyday life.
You will build your speaking, reading, writing, and listening through activities based on discussions, real-life topics, and current issues such as community life, the environment, and everyday experiences.
You will learn how to give reasons, compare ideas, and organise your thoughts clearly in both speaking and writing.
By the end of the course, you will feel confident sharing your opinions and expressing your ideas clearly in different situations.
In this course you will
• take part in discussions and debates on everyday topics
• give your opinion and respond to different views
• read and discuss texts about real-life and current issues
• write paragraphs and short texts expressing your ideas

Entry requirements
This is a course for learners working towards ESOL Level 1.
This means you can communicate in a range of everyday situations, understand longer texts, and write short texts with some accuracy.

• A folder
• Pens & pencils
• Lined A4 paper
• A smartphone (if you have one)
• A reusable water bottle
We will give you WiFi in your first lesson.
If you do not have a phone or computer, talk to your teacher.
You will need a Gmail account. Your teacher can help you set this up.

How will you know you are making progress?

How will you know you are making progress?
From the start of the course, your tutor will talk with you about what you can do and what you want to learn.
You will make a learning plan to help you develop your confidence in speaking and writing and expressing your ideas clearly.
As part of your learning, you will complete a personal task linked to expressing your ideas and opinions.
Examples of personal tasks include:
• take part in a discussion and give your opinion with reasons (e.g. community or social topics)
• write a clear opinion paragraph using linking words (e.g. because, however, so)
• compare ideas or situations using appropriate language (e.g. “better than”, “more important”)
• respond to another person’s opinion and explain your point of view
• give a short presentation on a topic with clear structure and supporting ideas
Some tasks may include real-life topics such as community issues, environment, or everyday life.
You will keep your work in a folder and receive feedback to help you improve your language and accuracy.
At the end of the course, you will review your progress and plan your next steps.
You need to attend at least 80% of your classes.
